Hello,

a bit about me:

Hi,  my name is Fred Vergara and welcome to my personal website. I am also known by my official title as The Rev. Dr. Winfred B. Vergara, missioner for Asiamerica Ministries in the Episcopal Church.

At birth, I was named Wenifredo and my nickname was "Wennie." At age 15, I ran away from my Philippine island to seek new life.  After living as a "street urchin" in Manila, I came across a priest who helped get me on to my dreams. My nickname became "Fred."

When I became a U.S. citizen, I shortened my given name to "Winfred" but the nickname FRED remains. For me, FRED signifies my love of adventure, my sense of mission, my thirst for learning, and my zest for life. I want to live my life to the full!

From a homeless boy in Manila streets, I now have many "homes" in Asia and America. From a working student, I have obtained a college degree, two Master's Degrees and two Doctoral degrees. Through study, job, and personal tours, I have practically travelled the world. Not bad for "the priest who ran away from home."
